ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

Hi,

I'm trying to properly interpret the ASN rules, but I feel that they fall short in describing some key things for the SS and SP classes.  I have replaced suspension bushings to a higher durometer in accordance to the SCCA STU/BSP class(not more or less metal or rubber than the original bushings).  I fail to see where the ASN rules allow for such items.

Also, I have changed the motor mounts and transmission mount to a higher durometer without changing the engine position relative to OEM.

I'm attempting to sign up in the proper class, but want to be classed accordingly.

For the new Street tire classes, the rules are very accurate as to what is allowed and what is not allowed.  Just looking for some additional information.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

Hello Eric

Looks like suspension bushings in SS are covered by 8.5.9, sub paragraph 4, p29. which looks like a copy/paste of the SCCA rules. SP would inherit this allowance.

As for the engine mounts alllowance, looks like it's MIA in this version. Been awhile since I looked at the ASN rules so cant remember if they were allowed in SS or only SP. Let me see what I can find.

JS... wishes ASN would just go to full SCCA rules already and stop cherry picking pieces here and there... neutral

Re: ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

JS,

Thanks for clarifying this.  I assumed this was for shock mounting attachments, but as you pointed out it covers the bushings for the suspension control arms and such.

I'm hoping the mounts are allowable in SS, if not I'll be replacing them to OEM's in order to get into SS.

Re: ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

Looks like an omission from the SP rules and was never allowed in SS. As it stands now to the letter of the rules, this is allowed only in Touring (ST) or Mod.

Let's see if we can get ASN issue a tech bulletin...

Re: ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

JSI,

Just to clarify.  Would a tech bulletin be a clarification on the specific ruleset for SP?  or a direct answer to my specific question regarding motor/tranny mounts.

sorry for all the questions, I just want to be best prepared for the competition within the given ruleset.

thanks,

Eric

Re: ASN rules don't talk about bushings and drivetrain mounts

JS,

SCCA rules indicate the following for SP:
J. Engine mounts may be replaced, but must attach in the factory
location(s) without additional modification or changes. Engine position
may not be changed. Hydraulic shock type rear engine locators, or
bobble struts, may be replaced by manufacturer’s performance part or
aftermarket replacement part. This part must retain factory dimensions
and attachment points, including factory design. (Example: If factory
locator/bobble strut is gas or hydraulic piston type, replacement part
must be gas or hydraulic piston type.) If one or more non-OE engine
mounts are used, 15.10.K does not apply and a torque suppression
device may not be used.
*****

If the ASN rules loosely translate, Aftermaket mounts should be allowed......hmm

thanks,
Eric

Eric, at this time the ASN rules will stand as is. Engine mounts allowed only in Touring and Mod. If something changes, we will post the info.

Thanks.
